What if our community owned land where we could grow our own food, spend time outdoors, learn new skills and celebrate with our family and friends?
A group of local residents had the idea to purchase land on Melbourne Common to do just that. With a lot of hard work, business plans, share offers, and a big grant from the National Forest we’ve done it! Together we can create a visionary model of low-input, high-yield woodland food production; create jobs and opportunities and establish a space where our community can meet, learn and celebrate.
The project has been initiated by Melbourne Area Transition, who, have a proven track record in community activities, and, along with many other local people, have the drive and enthusiasm to make it work!
Whistlewood Common Limited is an Industrial Provident Society, which operates for the benefit of the community. It has been set up to purchase the land and develop the opportunities that arise from it. Many other communities have got together to purchase assets for the community via share issues.
